Ffynnon Farm CSA

Ffynnon’s upcoming 2018 CSA season

With your support, we are once again bringing freshly-picked, tasty and nutritious vegetables, fruits and herbs directly from Ffynnon to you. This year, we have planned an even wider variety of vegetables, and a more consistent availability of the best varieties throughout the season. It’s part of our larger vision for Ffynnon to be a place where all our community can connect with the land and with each other, and part of our philosophy of giving back to the land at least as much as we get from it.

What is a CSA?

A CSA, or Community Supported Agriculture, is a relationship between you and your local farmer. You pay for a season’s worth of produce up front, and then receive a weekly box of vegetables and fruits throughout the growing season. Your early investment benefits the farmer by providing an early income to purchase seeds and supplies for the season, and the ability to plan and plant the widest variety of vegetables and fruits possible. You reap the benefits when we reap the harvest: because there is no middleman, your food dollars go farther than at a chain store’s produce department. And no chain store has a guy who picked your vegetables that morning, and can tell you how best to prepare them that same night!

What do I get?

Our season will run 20 weeks, from late June through early-November. We will deliver to pick-up sites in the Portland metro area on the same day each week. We aim to include as wide a variety of produce as we can with each box, and to include old favorites as well as new or unusual varieties. A “ full share” is designed to meet the needs of a family of three to four, or a household of two veggie-lovers. Early-season boxes may be a little slim, but shares will get fatter as the growing season progresses.

Pick-up locations include Inner SE (near Ladd's Addition), Downtown (SW Stark & 11th), Concordia (Ainsworth and 30th), Outer NE (Fremont & 102nd), Beaverton (Murray & Walker) and Vernonia.

Your CSA share:

  • You will receive the very freshest vegetables, fruits, and herbs, raised in harmony with nature and without synthetic herbicides or pesticides.
  • You will receive a weekly newsletter, including recipes highlighting that week’s produce, keeping you connected with Ffynnon Farm and our farmers.
  • You will know where your food comes from, who grows it and how.
  • You will get first offers and discounts on any “bounty harvest” crops, giving you the opportunity to purchase canning or preserving quantities of single items.
  • You will support our charitable efforts by helping us grow an “extra row” for the food-insecure in Columbia County.
  • You get the satisfaction of knowing that at least some of your food dollars will stay here and circulate in the local economy.

Your Part:

  • You will pay up front for your share.
  • You will share with the farmer in the risks associated with farming, including the risk of crop failure due to weather or pests. Your share may vary in size from week to week.
  • You will need to pick up your share on an assigned day and return your previous week’s box.
  • You will receive the same variety and amount of produce as all other members each week; there are no special orders.

What does it cost?

A basic 20-week full share is $550, and should provide a week's worth of fresh produce for a family of three to five veggie-lovers, or two hard-core vegans.  This year, for the first time, we are also offering half-shares at $325 for the full season.  If you sign up before April 30, you may take an early-bird discount of $50 off a full share or $25 off a half share.  Additional discounts are also available if you are a member of Ffynnon: $25 for full-year members at the Warden level and $100 off for Elders.  We will also have a limited number of egg shares available from our little flock of happy chickens.  One dozen eggs will be delivered every other week for a total of ten weeks for $40.

We ask that you pay at least half of your total bill when you sign up; the other half is due by June 1st.  Please note that there are no refunds once you sign up for a share; once you commit to growing with us we immediately commit to growing for you by investing your dollars in seeds, plants, soil amendments, and the like.
